PHYLLIS M. HAXTON STAUNTON, VA Phyllis M. (Rainaud) Haxton, 88, wife of Richard Irving Haxton, of Staunton, died Friday, October 2, 2015. She was born April 27, 1927, in Holyoke, Mass, a daughter of the late Luric and Isabelle (Ford) Rainaud. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Haxton was employed in the tax assessment office in Montgomery County in Maryland. She was a member of the Radio Amatuer Group (MARA). She worked with the girl scouts and did mission work doing Bible translation in Mexico and Peru. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. In addition to her husband of 65 years, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Walter A. Haxton of Hagerstown, MD and Calvin B. and Harriett Haxton of Emmettsburg, Maryland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan and Mitchell Kanter of Ellicott City and Audrey Whipp of Frederick, Maryland; three grandchildren, Wendy Kanter, Mitchell Kanter, JR., and Jenny Hostettler; and a brother, Ulric Rainaud of Bridgewater. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Rainaud and Ralph Rainaud. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2015, in First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg by the Rev. H. Donald Larue. Burial will be private in Culpeper National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Foreign Missions Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 17 North Court Square, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
