REBECCA "BECKY" SHOWKER STAUNTON ~ If you are reading this, it means my soul was released from my earthly cocoon on November 11, 2015 and is winging it's way to a brighter, more beautiful home. I was born on April 14, 1939 in Staunton, the youngest daughter of the late John E. and Pearle (Doome) Roadcap. Also preceding me were my husband, Ralph L. Showker, our unborn daughter, Najala Gaye; sister, Helen Elizabeth Roadcap; beloved son-in-law, Mark Simmons; and grandson, Andrew Simmons. A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and Shenandoah College (now Shenandoah University), I never knew what I wanted to "be" when I "grew up". Consequently, I worked a wide variety of jobs, learned many valuable skills and met many interesting people before becoming the full-time caregiver of my late husband. Baptized at the age of two in St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church, I learned to love music. I taught Sunday school, sat on various committees, worked wherever needed and especially enjoyed working in the church kitchen. Singing in the Chancel Choir and Celebration brought much joy to me. My children and grandchildren are my dearest treasure. Son, Steven Showker; daughters, Nina Showker Kaminsky (Scott), Dana Showker Simmons (Bruce), Lenora Caye Showker (Dianna); two grandchildren whom I helped raise, Caleb Simmons and Ashley Johnston Armstrong and her husband, R. W.; grandchildren, Lindsey Simmons, Kyle Simmons, and Thomas Watson; great granddaughter, Addyson Armstrong; former son-in-law, J. D. Johnston, Jr.; former grandson-in-law, Hunter Biggs; special friend, Leon Brooks; sisters-in-Christ, Lucille Humphreys and Glenna Jones; and my St. Paul's family. You are cordially invited to a Celebration Service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road and I kindly request the wearing of brightly colored clothing for those who will be in attendance. Officiating ministers: The Revs. Barbara Sawyer, Dr. Gene Williams, and T. Bryson Smith. I have requested cremation with Henry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.henryfuneralhome.net . Please, no flowers. If you so desire, memorial contributions may be made to: We Care Ministry of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours! Shalom, y'all! Becky
