RICHARD W. CLATTERBAUGH STAUNTON, VA… Richard W. Clatterbaugh, 86, of 686 Phillip Street passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at his residence. He was born June 16, 1930, in Staunton to the late Homer W. and Margaret (Gibson) Clatterbaugh. Richard graduated in 1948, president of his class and the first graduating class of Wilson Memorial High School. He served honorably in the United States Air Force and Reserves. He retired from Montgomery Ward with 43 years of service working in both the sporting goods and automotive departments. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors which included hunting ginseng, morel mushrooms, and picking berries. He loved Highland County and called it “God’s Country”. He was one of golf’s biggest fans and loved it to the end, cheering for all the new and upcoming greats. He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Price Clatterbaugh, whom he married August 8, 1953 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Also surviving are a son, Gregg W. Clatterbaugh of Christiansburg; and a daughter, Susan L. and husband, Terry L. Holsinger of Staunton; three grandchildren, Andrew R. Holsinger and girlfriend, Casey Taylor, Julia A. Holsinger “Peaches” all of Staunton, and Clay W. Clatterbaugh of Christiansburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret L. Campbell, Miss Ruth A Clatterbaugh, and Nellie C. Ergenbright; and five brothers, Gordon, Harmon, John “Guss”, Chester, and Burnett “Chuck”. Richard was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Per his wishes, the body was cremated with burial in Thornrose Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 6 p.m. in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by his nephew, Pastor Bobby Campbell and Pastor Bob Sharp of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church with family visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1614 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401. The family wishes to thank all of the staff, doctors, nurses of Augusta Health and home health caregivers for all the care and support during Richard’s illness and to the Hospice of the Shenandoah.
