RICHARD E. SIMMONS CHURCHVILLE, VA Richard Eugene Simmons, 80, widower of Josephine (Greaver) Simmons, of 29 Crawford Drive, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at his residence. He was born May 10, 1934, in Highland County, a son of the late Willie Tucker and Jannie (Botkin) Grant. Prior to retirement, Mr. Simmons was a deliveryman for many years with routes for Dr. Pepper and Pepsi Cola. Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter. Family members include a son, Gary Wayne Simmons of Churchville; a daughter, Wanda L. Brown and husband, Wesley, of Apex, NC; a son-in-law, Donald Sweet; six grandchildren, Adam Simmons, John Brown, Bryan McDaniel, Miranda Simmons, April Norment, and Dana Woodson; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Breeden and husband, Harry, of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Knott of Staunton; special friend, Maxine Thompson; and a cousin and caregiver, Isabelle Kincaid. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna K. Sweet and a son, Richard L. Simmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Strickler. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Brown, Bryan McDaniel, Mark Breeden, Roger Wilfong, Roger Kincaid, and Bruce Mooneyham. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in the funeral home.
