Robert Ree Blackwell, Jr.

Robert Ree Blackwell, Jr., 73, husband of Barbara Ann (Rohr) Blackwell, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 30, 2019 surrounded by his family at the University of Virginia Medical Center.   He was born June 14, 1945 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Robert Ree, Sr. and Mary Margaret (Marks) Blackwell. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an HVAC Technician by E & E Plumbing and Heating. Mr. Blackwell was a devoted husband and father. He was a member of Waynesboro Mennonite Church. He loved Westerns, NASCAR and his grandbabies. In addition to his wife of 53 years, family members include seven children and their spouses, Dana Eavers (Scott), Tamitha Campbell (Wayt), Lisa Shifflett (Mike), Contina Hill (Wayne), Aletha Mallow (Terry), Misty Sprouse, and Kenny Blackwell; three siblings, Ann Smith, Ellen Shover, and Johnny Mac Blackwell; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, and foster children that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Blackwell and four siblings, Maybeth Blackwell, Gertrude Meadows, Polly Bridge, and Steve Blackwell. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 in McElwee Chapel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
