ROBERT W. CARPER, SR. STAUNTON, VA Robert Warren Carper, Sr., 84, husband of Leta (Harris) Carper, of Staunton, went to be at rest with the Lord, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born on April 5, 1928, in Staunton, to the late William and Effie Alva (Acord) Carper. Mr. Carper retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of Staff Sgt. He served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He also retired from Smith's Transfer. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #13, Fleet Reserve Association, Marine Corps. Association, National Rifle Association, and Teamsters Local 29 Retirees. In addition to his wife, surviving family members include a brother and sister-in-law, William B., Sr., and Phyllis Carper; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W., Jr., and Rosalyn Carper; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Rodney Benson, Sharon C. Bartley, and Deanna and Jimmy Broyles; three step-daughters, Dian Crigler, Maria DeRuiter, and Cindy Gorrell and her husband, Charlie; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert A. Edwards. Family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, 1512 Churchville Avenue, Staunton, VA 24401, or to your favorite charity.
