    ROBERT ERWIN NAY

    April 5, 1922 - November 4, 2012

    ROBERT E. NAY WOODBRIDGE, VA Robert Erwin Nay, 90, husband of Jean (Baylor) Nay of 2940 Prince William Parkway, Woodbridge, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Potomac Sentara Hospital, Woodbridge. He was born April 5, 1922, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Howard Erwin and Agnes (Gauld) Nay. A 1940 graduate of Triadelphia High School in Wheeling, Mr. Nay attended the Virginia Military Institute. In the spring of 1944 Mr. Nay stepped forward with his entire class at VMI to volunteer for active duty as the nation's needs for junior officers was growing with the coming invasion of Europe. Mr. Nay served in France as an infantry platoon leader. His unit, the 100th Infantry Division fought in Alsace Lorraine where Lieutenant Nay was captured by the Germans in January 1945. He escaped from one POW camp, was recaptured, and was liberated at the end of the war. Returning from the war Mr. Nay worked in his family's shoe business in Wheeling, WV later moving to northern Virginia where he pursued a successful career in real estate. He was a member and past president of the McLean, Virginia Rotary. In addition to his wife, surviving family members include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert F. and Barbara G. Nay of Concord, NC, Richard E. and Linda H. Nay of Dacula, GA, and William H. Nay of Woodbridge, VA; a daughter, Sara N. Dudzik of Ashburn, VA; a brother, Howard R. Nay of Tenafly, NJ; a sister, Janet N. Carenbauer of Wheeling, WV; nine grandchildren; and a great grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Heinrich. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert F. Nay, Richard Nay, William H. Nay, Robert Nay, Drew Dudzik, and William Nay. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrier Project.
