Robert N. Moody

STAUNTON, VA…   Robert ‘Bob’ Noel Moody, 77, husband of Joyce ‘Joy’ (Jones) Moody, of Staunton, left his earthly life and went home to sing with the choirs of angels on Friday evening, July 6, 2018. Joy, Chris and Greg were with him to share their love and knowledge that we will be reunited. Mr. Moody was born on March 17, 1941 in Staunton, son of the late Noel Hosea and Elizabeth (Koiner) Moody. Mr. Moody lived a life of service that touched thousands of lives as an educator, musician and businessman.  As an educator, he taught elementary and high school bands, as well as physics.  Students learned discipline, teamwork and appreciation for the arts and sciences that helped them to have more impactful lives.  As a musician, he was a school band director for Churchville, Deerfield, Craigsville, Beverley Manor, Mount Solon and Buffalo Gap.  He was President of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. He added sight reading to band festivals, which influenced music education across the state. As choir director and organist, he delighted in ministering through music and took great care in choosing and arranging music to amplify and deepen connection to sermons in churches in Staunton and Augusta County. He was a member and Director of Music at Bethel Presbyterian Church. Bob directed the Stonewall Brigade Band, which he joined while in high school, and was the director for the past 42 years.  Bob touched the community through his leadership of the band and shared his encyclopedic knowledge of band literature and history.  He was involved in many professional and service organizations and bettered his community through his work. He served the Rotary Club of Staunton-Augusta County, where he held several positions, including President.  He became a Paul Harris Fellow and worked with Jazz in the Park; the club erected the “Bob Moody Concession Stand.”  He was Board Secretary of Valley Music Academy.  He was the owner of Moody Associates and created a business that helped provide funding for schools, pre-schools, bands, and youth sports organizations that have a positive impact on children across Virginia and West Virginia. Bob was a father and husband who set the highest bar for what it means to love one's family.  He set the best example for what a great husband and father should be for his sons by showing his love for God, family, music, and through sharing his many talents with others.  He was a devoted husband, proud father and adored Grampy. In addition to his wife, other surviving family members include two sons, Chris Moody and his wife Tracy, and Greg Moody and his wife Holly; four granddaughters, Brooke, Jordan, Anne and Claire Moody. Other family members are Buck and Margaret Freed, James and Linda Jones, Peggy Papke, Bob and Ann Coon, Bill Kivlighan, Virginia Kivlighan, John and Katherine Taylor, Geoff and Anna Davis, Butch Miller, Elizabeth Pillar, and Robert Coon; numerous nephews and nieces - Marty Brannock; Bill, Kym and Paige Ramsey; Jake and Summer Powers; Jeff, Crista, Abby and Loren Papke; Julie Papke, Mark, Zack and Ellie; Kelly and Ashley Jones; Holly, Rachel and Chance Snell; Zac Campbell; Wes, Kevin, Lora and Kendall Freed; Alan, Kathy, Betsy and Ryan Quimby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Roy Henry and Gertrude Crone Jones and other family members - Frances Brannock, Charlotte Jones, Pam Kivlighan, Kay Christiansen and Donald Papke. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 9, 2018 by Rev. Kelly-Ann Rayle at Bethel Presbyterian Church with internment following in the church cemetery.
