ROBERT E. SIMMONS STAUNTON, VA Robert Edward Simmons, 79, of 676 Buttermilk Spring Road, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born September 26, 1934, in Staunton, a son of the late Lena B. Eavey. Mr. Simmons was a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during Korea. Prior to his retirement in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, he was employed as a welder by McQuay. He also worked at Westinghouse for many years and was owner of Simmons Welding. He was a member of Verona United Methodist Church and Verona VFW Post 10826. Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Roger Burns of Staunton and Dale R. and Jeff Kennedy of Crimora; three grandchildren, Suzie Minor and husband, Andrew, Becky Burns, and Timothy Rankin and wife, Jessica; two great grandchildren, Carson Minor and Kaylea C. Rankin; and four aunts, Frances Dean, Orpha Varner and husband, Elmo, of Headwaters, Violet Fauber, and Catherine Constantino. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert Edwards. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Roger Burns, Jeff Kennedy, Tim Rankin, Gary Michael, Keyser Kirtley, Ray Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell, and Danny Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Sensabaugh, Bill Glenn, Bob Rodgers, and John Root. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in the funeral home and other times at the homes of his daughters. Memorials may be made to Verona VFW Post 10826.
