ROBERT WOODS JR. STAUNTON, VA… Robert Woods Jr., 79, of Staunton, passed away February 26, 2017 at the UVA Transitional Care Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was born January 27, 1938, in Waynesboro, to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Rose) Woods. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the City of Staunton as a master electrician and the Staunton City School System as a bus driver. He was an electrician by trade with Woods and Jones Electrical Contractors and later owned and operated Woods Electrical Contracting. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, reading the Word and sharing his faith. He was an ordained Deacon at Mt. Salem Baptist Church and served as lead Deacon for many years at Friendship Church of Staunton. He later visited Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Joyce (Marshall) Woods; brother, William Woods; and sister, Clara McCarthy. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, sons, Robert (Alice) Woods II of Staunton and Matthew (Ellen) Woods of Williamson, SC; daughter, Joyce Marie Woods of Fort Washington, MD; sister, Alee Washington of Waynesboro; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; grandchildren, Amy, Megan, Natasha, Candice and Mattieangela; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a special companion, Joann Barber; and friend, Thornton Miller. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Mt. Salem Baptist Church by Pastor Floyd Miles. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at his son’s residence, 915 Grove Lane, Staunton.
