Rosallen Wilson Mcmath

STAUNTON, VA Rosallen Wilson (Spencer) McMath, of Staunton, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 31, 2014, at her home. Rosallen was born on July 23, 1940, to the late Carroll M. and Julia Q. Spencer of Columbia, SC. She is survived by a son, David D. McMath and his wife, Tinker, of Saratoga, CA; a daughter, Carroll S. Weatherman and her husband, Chuck, of Staunton; and seven grandchildren, Audrey, Spencer, and Austin McMath and Jack, Charles, Andrew, and William Weatherman. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Cam Spencer, of Charleston, SC, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews in Virginia and South Carolina. Rosallen grew up in Columbia, SC and attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Education. She earned her Master's in Education from Virginia Tech while raising her two children. Whether you called her Rosallen, Rosie or RoRo, she was the consummate teacher in profession and as a mother and grandmother. She sought and found opportunity for learning in every aspect of her life. She surrounded herself with wonderful friends she valued deeply. Whether traveling to exotic places or simply a beach trip to the Outer Banks, she held tightly to the bonds of her lifelong friends. She enjoyed giving and sharing with others. Her passion for art and history took her to volunteer as a docent at many museums throughout her life including the Virginia Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress. Her love of politics drew her to spend hundreds of hours of her lifetime committed to supporting conservative policy and electing those people whom she believed reflected her Christian/Republican views. When recently asked what she wanted her last words to be, she, lightheartedly replied, "vote Republican!". A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. It will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Gene Williams and the Rev. Wade Munford. A reception will follow in the Narthex after the service where the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Carolina Children's Home, 3201 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204, in her honor. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
