Roger Page Sprouse

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, Roger Page Sprouse of Staunton, Va., passed away peacefully at the age of 84 surrounded by his family at Augusta Health.

He was born on February 1, 1937 in Henrico, Va., son of the late Evelyn Mae (Crafton) and Austin Berkley Sprouse.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Pirkey) Sprouse, of 56 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi Marie (Sprouse) Saunders and husband, Gordon, and Elizabeth Page (Sprouse) Alltop and husband, David; two sisters, Joyce (Sprouse) Shircliff and husband, Austin, and Betty (Sprouse) Pritchett and husband, Daniel; three grandchildren, Gillian Saunders, and Keller and Rhett Alltop; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley (Sprouse) Maybush.

Roger retired 23 years ago from Tyco, formerly AMP Incorporated, as a machinist.

He was an avid classic car lover and also had a very keen memory. Roger would often recount random knowledge about old cars and drag racing that others had forgotten. Some of his favorite interests included classic cars, drag racing, Volkswagen buses, “ham” radio, and Lionel trains. Roger never forgot anything and he remained hard-headed until the very end.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June, 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the outdoor pavilion at Christ United Methodist Church. Reverend Jesse Moffitt will preside. Those attending may wish to bring their own lawn chair for additional seating.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Augusta Health for the care that he received during the past two weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1512 Churchville Ave., Staunton, Va., 24401.
