Ronald Duane Hatcher

Ronald Duane Hatcher, 70, of 776 S. Braeburn Place, Staunton, VA died on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in Albemarle County. He was born on September 5, 1948, in Peoria, IL and was a son of the late Lilburn Duane and Agnes Ellen (McShane) Hatcher.   He graduated from Augusta Military Academy in 1967, and Fort Lauderdale University in 1971. Mr. Hatcher retired from Comcast Spotlight as an account executive in 2013.   He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church in Staunton, Virginia.  He was currently the Church Council Chair.  He served on the Board of Directors for Augusta Expo.  Mr. Hatcher was a mason with the Masonic Lodge of Luray. On August 30, 1970, he married the former Janet Lee Spitler, who survives. He is survived by one daughter, Lora H. Flint and husband Jeffrey C. Flint; and known as Big Daddy to his two granddaughters, Madison Marie and Hailey LeeAnn. He is survived by three siblings, Mrs. Cindy Atwood and husband Donnie; Mr. Ray Hatcher and significant other Susan Dickerson; Mrs. Sally Arey and husband George; and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Hatcher was full of life and energy and pursued many hobbies, including his love of golf, hunting, fishing, playing music with several bands over the years, good times with good friends, the occasional late-night poker game, and coaching many sports over the years.  His favorite hobby was watching his granddaughters playing their favorite sports. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 7, at the Marquis Memorial United Methodist by the Rev. Elizabeth von Trapp Walker, Pastor Scott Reese, and the Rev. Robert W. Sharp.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church on Sunday. There will be a family graveside service on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens with Masonic rites.
