Shirley Weems

Shirley Miller Weems: March 2, 1936 - February 12, 2013 Shirley Weems,76, died on Wednesday February 12, 2013 at UVA Hospital. Shirley Weems was born in Staunton Virginia to the late Ray and Pauline Miller. She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1953 and married her high school sweetheart, Ray Weems, on April 14, 1956. They settled in the Shenandoah Valley, an area she so dearly loved. Shirley devoted her life to the care of others, including her husband, their five children, and so many others. She was nurturing, compassionate, and earnest and touched so many lives profoundly. She was a longtime volunteer at Waynesboro Community Hospital, an active member of: Christian Women's Club; Meadows Presbyterian Church; and the Ruth Circle at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church. Shirley had an adventurous spirit, a wry sense of humor, and loved life. She was much attuned to nature, drawn in by a winter sunset, an oft missed bird's song, and the occasional visits of deer and fox. She travelled extensively, was a gourmet cook, loved gardening, was an avid reader, and adored her pets. It is impossible to include all that she has given us, and all that we will miss in her absence. Surviving are her husband, Ray, and their five daughters: Leslie Weems, Kathy West, Mac Weems, Marty Weems, and Meg Weems; her siblings: Donald Miller, Fred Miller, and Patricia Rexrode; and six adoring grandchildren. The visitation will be held on Friday, February 15th from 6-8pm at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton, Virginia. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 11:00 am at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church, in Fishersville, Virginia. The family will receive guests and visitors in Spring Hall immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
