SUSAN F. MCCRAY STAUNTON, VA Susan Allen (Fitz) McCray, 64, wife of Michael M. McCray of 3975 Old Greenville Road, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at her residence. She was born February 7, 1950, in Bristol, CT, a daughter of the late Arthur Salisbury, II, and Dorothy Louise (Gengenbach) Fitz. Prior to retirement, Mrs. McCray was employed by the Augusta County Public Schools with 28 years of service. She taught at Buffalo Gap High School, Riverheads High School, Weyers Cave Elementary School, Clymore Elementary School, and Beverley Manor Middle School. She was an active member and officer in the Augusta Parrish Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Audobon Society and was a life-long animal enthusiast. She was a family historian, loved gardening, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, family members include a daughter, Kimberly L. McCray of Plymouth, North Carolina; a brother, Arthur S. Fitz, III of Dracula, Georgia and his wife Janet H. Fitz; a sister-in-law, Julie M. Turner of Staunton and her husband Tim Turner; her father-in-law, Harry R. McCray of Staunton; and nephews, Arthur Fitz, Daniel Fitz, and Ethan Wonderley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Alphadine Meyerhoeffer McCray; and a nephew, Jacob Wonderley. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by Rev. JoAnn Bunn. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the men of the church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
