SAMUEL H. CLEM STAUNTON, VA… Samuel Helms Clem, 79, widower of Patsy Ann (Doome) Clem, of Staunton, died Monday, June 10, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 26, 1940 in Staunton, a son of the late Raleigh Armstrong and Mary Alice Ruth (Samples) Clem. Sam retired from VDOT and spent a number of years at Smith’s Transfer. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and choir member. Sam was also a member of the Izaak Walton League and the R.E. Lee Athletic Hall of Fame. He was treasurer of the Isaiah Clem Cemetery Association.  Sam was an Eagle Scout, longtime Scout Master, and area council board member. He also managed the Staunton Braves, loved family trips to the Outer Banks and was an avid nature lover. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Catty Clem; a daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Bob Huffer; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Lou Clem of Mt. Solon; a sister and her partner, Betty Jane Clem and Sue Dickson of Fairfax; and six grandchildren: Andy Clem, Reese Huffer, Ruth Clem, Allie Huffer, Grace Clem, and Joe Clem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Staunton by the Rev. Karen Allamon. Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Henry Funeral Home.
