Sandy was born on April 20, 1945 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, VA to Helen Catherine Chittum Ayers and Garland Oscar Ayers, while her daddy was serving in the Navy on a ship in the Pacific during WWII, and he did not see her until after the war ended and he was discharged. She graduated from Spottswood High School with her class in 1963 where she began in first grade. She was baptized at and was a member of Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church. Sandy spent much of her life caring for others, whether family or the elderly in nursing homes and was a good friend to many. She was a faithful spectator at her family’s Little League and school athletic games and activities. Sandy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Whitely B. and Mary Ferris Ayers Quarles and Clyde and Lula Cox Chittum, her parents, and two brothers, Roy Lenwood Ayers in 2022 and Charles Wilson Ayers in 1965, and a great-grandson, Jacob Neil Sweeney. Sandy is survived by her husband of sixty years, Luther Lyle Reese; her children, Susan Reese Alley and husband Jon, Luther “Buzzy” Brian Reese and wife, Alanda and Keith Wayne Reese; grandchildren, Samuel Dean Davis and his children Kaylee and Willow Davis; Brandon Wade Davis and wife Crystal, and daughter Victoria; Wendi Nicole Smith and her sons, David and Logan Austin; Kelli Smith; Katie Lumsden and husband Tony and children Cooper Simmons and Tucker Lumsden; Todd Michael Reese and Tyler Reese; her sister, Barbara Ayers Worrell of Charlottesville; numerous nieces and nephews, and only surviving uncle Earl W. and Marjorie Ann Chittum; brothers-in-law David “Bucky” Reese and wife Betty Jean and James Wayne Reese. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2022 at Henry Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Frank Hall.
