Suneeta Kaasan

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Suneeta (Asrani) Kaasan on Monday, May
23, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Suneeta was born in Staten Island, New York on February 15, 1971. She grew up in
Blacksburg, Virginia but also spent several years in India as a young girl. Suneeta loved travel,
time in nature, getting lost in a creative project, meeting new people and most of all she loved
her son, Solomon. She lived her life big and unapologetically and wasn’t afraid to do more and
stretch herself to try new things. Suneeta attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, a
school far from home that offered a program in agricultural economics and rural sociology,
topics about which she was passionate. She began her career with a sustainable farming
interest and for a time had a successful landscaping business. However, the majority of her
career was spent as a planning analyst for Hennepin County in Minneapolis using her Master’s
in Public Health degree from the University of Minnesota. Her wide range of interests were
reflected in how she spent her time. She could often be found doing home improvement projects
around her house and yard, cooking a new recipe, perfecting a craft, or planning her next trip.
Her adventurous spirit brought her to India, Italy, Costa Rica, Iceland, Belize and many more
countries. She returned to her roots in Virginia in 2020 and was enjoying a simpler life in the
Shenandoah Valley. Her dream was to build a home and start a hobby farm on land she had
recently purchased. That dream of building a home on that land will become our dream.

Suneeta leaves behind many family and friends who loved her deeply. This includes her beloved
son Solomon, her mother Peggy and her father Das, her brother Anil and her sister-in-law
Laura, her nieces Arabella and Lilian and her nephew Oliver, her aunts, uncles and cousins in
the US and India and the many close friends she considered family. There are so many special
people she connected with in her life and we are so glad that you had the chance to meet and
know her.

Suneeta’s star burned bright but ultimately life was too painful for her and she made the
decision to end her life. While this is devastating for those of us left behind, we are grateful that
she is no longer suffering and that we had the privilege to share our lives and experiences with
her. She was an unforgettable person and she will stay vivid in the memory of all who met her.
Suneeta will forever come to mind in times of goofy laughter and moments of striking beauty in
nature. Her joie de vivre will live on in us. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider making a
donation in her honor to a non-profit of your choosing that speaks to who Suneeta was and what
she believed in.
