THOMAS P. NANCE STAUNTON Thomas Pender Nance, 88, widower of Maxine (Armstrong) Nance, went to his eternal home to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 11, 2012. He was born April 12, 1924 in Oxford, North Carolina, a son of Pender and Sally (Mays) Nance. After leaving North Carolina, he met the love of his life, Maxine Armstrong, with whom he celebrated sixty-three years of marriage until her death in 2009. Upon settling in Augusta County, he was employed with Smith's Transfer and Western State Hospital before founding Valley Termite and Pest Control Service. He worked hard for forty years at Valley Termite where he truly enjoyed his conversations with his customers. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and also flying, with his son David as pilot. He had an exceptional love for animals, especially his two beloved cats, Bonnie and Clyde. He was a member of Stonewall United Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jerry T. and Janet Nance of Augusta County, Ronald Nance of Churchville, John and Betty Nance of Churchville, and David and Vickie Nance of Richmond; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Edward Snyder of Richmond, and Annette and Dale Moats of Blue Ridge; a sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Hugh Vaughn of Oxford, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren, Doug, Christopher, Jeremy, Tommy, and Brandie Nance, Dwayne, Scott, and Michelle Snyder, Tammy Carter, Nicolette Moats, Latisha Capriani, Matthew Moats, Paula Lawson, and Tina McLaughlin; twelve great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Charles. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Golden C. Clark, Jr. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Nance, Doug Nance, Dwayne Snyder, Scott Snyder, Matthew Moats, Jeremy Nance, and Christopher Nance. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, August 14, 2012, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the S. P. C. A., P. O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to their special and loving caregivers, Rebecca, Sue, Linda, Carmen, Jessica, and LaFerne, and also the wonderful people at Hospice of the Shenandoah.
