Thomas J. Sorrells

THOMAS J. SORRELLS STAUNTON, VA.. Thomas J. Sorrells, 87, widower of Dorothy (Shifflett) Sorrells, of 1192 Blandford Street, died Sunday, November 27, 2011, at his residence. He was born April 22, 1924 in Alto (Amherst), VA a son of the late Thomas Ernest and Elizabeth (Martin) Sorrells. Prior to retirement, Mr. Sorrells was employed by Lee High Cement. He was a member of the Staunton Moose Lodge #1635 and a lifetime member of Craigsville VFW. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert b. Sorrells and two sisters, C. Christine Williams and Ila Mae Mills. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carolyn Sorrells of Staunton; a brother, Ernest "Buck" J. Sorrells of Reno, Nevada; four sisters, Mildred Jackson and Lucy Gruel, both of Beauford, SC, Evelyn "Bunty" McKee of Staunton, and Priscilla Hund-Newport of Richie, FL; a granddaughter, Nikki Wolfe and her husband, David; and three great grandchildren, Dylan Lee Sorrells and Ashlyn and Troy Wolfe. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011, in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. John Sullivan. Active pallbearers will be Charles Fridley, Dylan Sorrells, Grover Spradlin, Pete McCray, and Buzz Boetticher. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 629 Parkview Ave., Staunton.
