Thornton "Thorny" Wilson Byram, 74, beloved husband of Fonda (Humphries) Byram went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2011 at his residence, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 30, 1936 in Craigsville, a son of the late William and Ethel (Puckett) Byram. Mr. Byram was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in land sales. He was a member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren and the Richmond Moose Lodge. In addition to his beloved wife of 52 years, family members include three daughters and two son-in-laws;Tammie and Jeff Campbell of Fishersville, Sherri McKenney , Terri and Matthew Poole, a son Steven Byram all of Richmond. Three brothers, Walter, Garner, and Richard, all of Craigsville; ten granddaughters; and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Logan, William and Massie Byram; six sisters, Jessie Miller, Zelma Knight, Louise Mays, Nancy Lambert, Beulah Reed, and Stella Strickler; and a great grandchild, Ada Grace Dyson. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren by the Revs Galen Combs and Linwood Wilkes. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Graveside Rites will be conducted by Augusta-Staunton V.F.W. Post #2216 Active pallbearers will be Troy Ayers, Billy Reed, Timothy Pascoe, Jim Mullenaux, Robert Adams, and Gordy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at Henry Funeral Home.
