STAUNTON, VA.. Vance Edward Johnson, 68, of 1121 Montgomery Ave., died Saturday, May 14, 2016, at his residence. He was born March 19, 1948, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Allen W. Sr., and Janie (Franklin) Johnson. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger L. “Papa” and Anika Jones of Waynesboro and Matt and Denika Strickland of Staunton; eight daughters, Loretta Bryant of Lynchburg, Lorraine Jones of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Donita Miller of Dover, Delaware, Lynette Slaughter of North Carolina, Carman Bartlett of Staunton, Kristen Strickland of Waynesboro, Faith Bryant of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Sonya Chaplin of North Carolina; a brother, Lynwood “Tootie” Johnson of Staunton; 23 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pawnee Robertson; a brother, Allen W. Johnson, Jr.; and three sisters, Carrie Morman, Sophie “Mickey” Taylor, and Edenonia “Monie” Calloway. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, in the funeral home and other times at the home of his son, Roger Jones, 1044 Albemarle Ave., Waynesboro.
