Vera Constance (Shumate) Layman

VERA S. LAYMAN BRIDGEWATER, VA…             Vera Constance (Shumate) Layman, 94, widow of Michael C. Layman, of Bridgewater, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Bridgewater Retirement Community.             She was born January 22, 1924, in Mt. Sidney, a daughter of the late Marvin Hanger and Madge Haveland (Harris) Shumate.             Prior to retirement, Mrs. Layman was employed by Reid’s Grocery Store.             She was a member of Mt. Sidney United Methodist Church.             In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin H. Shumate, Jr; and two sisters, Elizabeth S. Simmons and Catherine S. Warren.             Family members include a sister, Faye S. Sutton; and numerous nieces and nephews.             A private graveside service will be conducted at Augusta Memorial Park.             In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 9702 Gayton Road #110, Richmond, VA 23238, American Cancer Society, 1445 E.
