Virginia Arbutus Garber

Virginia Arbutus (Thompson) Garber, 100, widow of Herman Garber, of Staunton, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Brookdale. She was born November 24, 1918 in Pax, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Earl and Eliza (Stover) Thompson. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Western State Hospital. Mrs. Garber was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church. Family members include a son, Robert Ellison of Staunton; two daughters, Norma Jean Rainard of Orange Park, FL and Anna L. Demory of Staunton; two sisters, Dorothy Marsh of Chicago and Dawn Joyce Daniels of Meadow Bridge, WV; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dillard and Billy David Thompson. DUE TO FAMILY ILLNESS, THE SERVICE HAS BEEN CANCELED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Linden Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 371 Linden Drive, Staunton, VA 24401 or Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
