MADELINE P. HARRIS GREENVILLE, VA Virginia Madeline (Painter) Harris, 83, wife of Chester O. Harris of 91 Greenville School Road, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Shenandoah Nursing Home following a courageous battle pulmonary fibrosis. She was born February 13, 1928 in Lofton, a daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle (Lawhorn) Painter. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Harris was employed by Waynesboro DuPont Plant for 25 years. She was a charter member of Pines Presbyterian Chapel Church and the Women of the church. She was also a member of the AARP. In addition to her husband of 64 years, family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Wayne Gorden of Greenville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Joyce Harris of Buena Vista and Rick Harris of Waynesboro; two brothers, Doug Painter and Phillip Painter, both of Staunton; two sisters, Gladys Harris of Greenville and Dorothy Weeks of Raphine; a sister-in-law, Lorean Painter; four grandsons, Matthew and Mark Harris, R. W. and Michael Gorden, a granddaughter, Amanda; and a great granddaughter, Randi Harris. She was preceded in death by two sons, Randall Lamar Harris and David Oliver Harris; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson, Justin L. Harris. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011,in Pines Chapel by the Rev. Isca Mitchell and Rev. Dr. Robert D. Goshorn. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Harris, Mark Harris, R. W. Gorden, Michael Gorden, Jimmy Painter, Doug Painter, Jr., Johnny Weeks, Chris Harris, and David Painter.. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and Gene Thompson, Rodney Harris, Derek Almarode, Melvin Hays, Ronnie Rohr, Danny Fitzgerald, Euley Phillips, and Danny Myrtle. The family will receive friends at the residence and immediately following the service at the church. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Memorials may be made to Pines Chapel Cemetery, c/o Danny Myrtle, 3751 Cold Springs Road, Raphine, VA 24472 or to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Shenandoah Nursing Home and Hospice of the Shenandoah.
