Virginia Mae Harris

STAUNTON, VA Virginia Mae (Eckard) Harris, 83, widow of Samuel Edward Harris Sr., passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at King's Daughters' Community Health and Rehab Center. She was born June 18, 1932, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Grover Clay Eckard and Lou Florence (Simmons) Eckard. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Harris was employed by Genesco Grief for 42 years. She married Samuel Harris Sr., who died on March 24, 2002. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. Family members include three daughters; Brenda Sullivan, Becky George and her husband, David and Shirley Powell and her husband, Wayne; a brother, William Eckard; a daughter-in-law, Pat Harris; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her friends at Gypsy Hill House. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Harris, Jr.; two brothers, John Eckard and David Eckard and a sister, Elsie Eckard. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Major Sam Hearne and Pastor David George. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2015 in the Henry Funeral Home.
