Virginia H. Ludwig

VIRGINIA H. LUDWIG STAUNTON, VA Virginia H. Ludwig, 98, of Staunton, Virginia, died on Thursday, November 27, 2014. She was born on October 16, 1916, to Clarence David and Sadie Wright Harper in Staunton. Virginia was a life-long member of Central United Methodist Church and a member in heart of the First Baptist Church, where she attended regularly both with her husband and after his death. During her younger years she was an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary Circle at Central Methodist, and, with her husband, she was an avid camper, belonging to several camping groups in the Staunton-Augusta County area, but mostly she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Harry McDonald Ludwig, her husband of 65 years, and by her brothers, Clarence Harper, William Harper, and Charles Harper, her sister, Mary H. McClung Moomau, and a granddaughter, Kathleen E. Ludwig. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Rutman and her husband, Al, of Glen Allen, two sons, David G. Ludwig and his wife, Donna, of Ft. Defiance, and Victor V. Ludwig and his wife, Sally, of Staunton; and by eight grandchildren, Katherine (Menk) Trahan, Karl Bryan Menk, Christine (Ludwig) Sidilau, Victor V. Ludwig, Jr., Benjamin H. Ludwig, Jennifer (Rutman) Goldberg, Rhett Rutman and Mark Rutman; twelve great-grandchildren, Molly, Ella and Madeline Trahan, Samuel Menk, Abigail Ludwig, Ander and Preston Sidilau, Alexander and Zachery Goldberg, Casey and Tyler Rutman, and Isabella Rutman. The family extends special thanks to Home Instead and the wonderful caregivers who so lovingly cared for Virginia at home, and whom she came to view as family. A graveside service to honor her will be held in Thornrose Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, with Pastor Steven Traylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donations to the First Baptist Church or to Central United Methodist Church of Staunton, Virginia. Henry Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
