VIRGINIA G. REID STAUNTON, VA Virginia (Gochenour) Shipplett Reid, 90, of Staunton, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Royal Care in Staunton. She was born August 21, 1924, in Staunton, a daughter of the late William Guy and Catherine (Berry) Gochenour. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1944 and taught in Staunton and Augusta County Public School. Mrs. Reid was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for fifty years, served as an elder, and was an active member and past moderator of the Presbyterian Women. She was also a past member of the Board of King's Daughters' Hospital and served six years on the Staunton City School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm John Reid in May 1996, whom she married at the chapel of Virginia Tech in April 1977. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Roller Shipplett, Sr. in June 1973, whom she married November 1942. She is survived by two sons, H. Roller Shipplett, Jr. and his wife, Jerry Lynn, of Staunton and Eric M. Shipplett (the fun one) and his wife, June, of Mount Sidney; two step-children, Suzanne Williams and her husband, Ron, of Lusby, MD and John Reid of Lake Anna; four grandchildren, Nikki and Marc Clayton of Staunton, Jakki and Alex Avery of Staunton, Paul and Leandra Jenkins of Crozet, and Sarah and Tomasz Kosalka of Harrisonburg; eight great grandchildren, Quincy Clayton, Ethan and Noah Avery, Lyla and Ainsley Jenkins, and Anna, Ella, and Adam Kosalka; and two special nieces, Jan Booker of Pulaski and Lou Garrison of Greensboro, NC "who filled the void after the death of her sister, Winnie". A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church by the Revs. John C. Peterson and Mary Johns. Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Alex Avery, Buz Booker, Marc Clayton, Rich Garrison, Paul Jenkins, and Tomasz Kosalka. Ginny requested that those who wish to make memorial contributions do so to First Presbyterian Church, 100 East Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Royal Care for the love and kindness shown to Ginny and her family. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
