Virginia Wetzel

Virginia Morrison Wetzel died in her home at the Legacy on Friday, November 23, 2018.  A native of Staunton, Mrs. Wetzel was born on July 5, 1923, the daughter of Carol King Morrison and Rose Sherwood Morrison.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Wetzel and five brothers and sisters.             Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Wetzel, Jr., and wife Suzanne of Duck, NC and Midlothian ,VA,  Herbert M. Wetzel and wife Camilla of Monument, CO; five grandchildren: Emily W. Bhatta (David), Eric P. Wetzel (Samantha), Dr. Robert L. Wetzel (Alexandra), Thomas M. Wetzel (Amy), and Caroline W. Tofano (Chris) and three great grandchildren, Addison, Harper and Grant Bhatta.  Also, a loving and devoted brother James S. Morrison and his wife Clementine and a great number of nieces and nephews.             Mrs. Wetzel was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond, Virginia. Along with her husband, Mrs. Wetzel was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  She was a tireless worker in the church for many years and took an active part in all phases of the church’s operations.  She was an enthusiastic supporter of Staunton.  She served on Staunton’s Tourism Advisory Board, the board of Historic Staunton Foundation and as a volunteer at the Staunton Visitors Center.  Another highlight in her life was her ownership of the Bridal Suite in downtown Staunton.             A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at a later date.             The family wishes to acknowledge the love and care provided to Mrs. Wetzel by the Legacy nurses and staff during her time with them.             In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Endowment Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2001 N. Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401 or to the Hospice of Shenandoah, P.O. Box, 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939.             Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
