WADE B. LUCAS STAUNTON, VA Wade Bruce "Poppy" Lucas, 63, husband of Janis Gaines Lucas, passed away peacefully May 21, 2014 at his residence. He was born December 26, 1950, in Wilson, NC, a son of the late Wade Artis and Marjorie L. Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. "Buck" Lucas and a sister, Barbara G. Lucas Sharpe. Mr. Lucas was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Tawana Lucas and boyfriend, Scottie Johnson, Deirdre Ramsey and husband, Michael, and Angela Cleveland; nine grandchildren, Jasmine Cleveland, Ernest Cleveland, Ashley Ramsey, Amaya Lucas, Kamiyah Taylor, Payton Ramsey, Leon Johnson, Jr., Jasmine Johnson, and Delonte Johnson; four sisters, Reverend Dr. Patricia Lucas Simmons (William), Peggy Lucas Melton, Deborah Lucas Bullock (Harold), and Sabrina Lucas (David); three brothers, Ervin Lucas (Pam), Billy Lucas, and Vincent Lucas; a special niece, Mechelle Melton; and a host of extended family and special friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Willie Washington and the Rev. Dr. Patricia Lucas Simmons. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ralph Wilson, Eddie Siron, Alonzo Taylor, Billy Vaughn, Jeff Simmons, Keyser Kirtley, and David Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard, Calvin, Eugene Vaughn, and Chris Folweiler. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Richard Crawford, 409 Smith Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
