William Byron Ayres

WILLIAM B. AYRES STUARTS DRAFT, VA…William Byron Ayres, 71, husband of Carolyn (Craig) Ayres, of Stuarts Draft, died Saturday, April 29, 2017, in Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born September 22, 1945 in Aqua, VA a son of the late Layton Willis and Helen Irene (Howell) Ayres. Mr. Ayres was a veteran of the U.S. Navy proudly serving in Vietnam on the USS Frank Knox. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Nibco with 28 years of service. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Waynesboro Moose for 40 and enjoyed working in the yard and feeding all the birds in the Draft.             In addition to his wife, family members include a sister-in-law, Brenda Wright and husband, James E. Wright II; a brother-in-law, John H. Craig III and wife, Kim; a special nephew, Scott T. Craig and wife, Mallory; a great nephew, Aidan; a great niece, Morgan; a step-son, Michael W. Fultz of Verona; a step-daughter, Michelle Fletcher and husband, Kevin, of Waynesboro; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald Lee and Barbara Ayres and Gary Ayres, all of Staunton; a sister, Kimberly Vest of Buena Vista;; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Ayres; and two sisters, Susan Robideaux and Patricia Jordan. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in Calvary United Methodist Church by the Revs. Charlie Reynolds and Nancy Vaughn. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be David Hayes, Gary Whistleman, Doug Warner, John Buchanan, Wayne Paxton, and Jeff Williams. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, in Calvary United Methodist Church.
