WILLIAM H. SMITH, JR. STAUNTON, VA…William Henry “Monk” “Bill” Smith, Jr., 84, of Staunton died Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born April 25, 1933 in Staunton, a son of the late William H., Sr., and Stellarine (Carter) Smith. While living in California William owned EWL Trucking and drove for other companies for over 60 years. Family members include his soulmate of 40 years, Elsie (McGee) Crawford; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Rosetta and Ronald Richardson of Waynesboro, Sharon and Danzie Seaward of Maryland, Jintra “Cindy” and James Bradshaw of California, Lavonda Smith of California, and Katina Irving of Richmond; a sister, Catherine “Cat” Smith of Stuarts Draft; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Calvin Smith; a brother, Kenneth Lee Smith, Sr.; a sister, Evelyn Crawford; and a great granddaughter, Desire Smith. A funeral service will be held 12 noon on Saturday, April 7, 2018, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Thomas Johnson. Burial will follow in Hunters Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Larry Alestock, Joell Smith, Anthony Smith, Dean Crawford, Chester Smith, Jr., Frezelle Crawford, and James Butler. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hunters Cemetery, c/o Curtis Smith.
