WILLIAM H. VARNER STAUNTON, VA William Harmon Varner, 82, of 1396 Lee Jackson Highway, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 9, 1930, in Middlebrook, to the late Harmon Brown and Mary Naomi (Sandy) Varner. Mr. Varner served in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement he was a bridge construction superintendent for the Shirley Contracting Corporation. He was a member of Staunton Moose, Eagles Lodge, American Legion, Staunton VFW, and Augusta-Staunton VFW Post #2216. Family members include a son, William E. Varner of Craigsville; a brother, Robert "Bob" Varner of Staunton; and two sisters, Chita Opple of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Juanita Maddox of Staunton. His caretaker was his sister-in-law, Patricia Varner. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Varner, Vincent Varner, and Ralph Varner and two sisters, Carletta Frank and Sara Jane Swisher. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. Robert A. Edwards. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
