WINIFRED S. LOMAX STAUNTON, VA Winifred Spellman (Smith) Lomax, 95, of Staunton, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012. She was born January 11, 1917, in Orange, New Jersey, daughter of the late Charles W. and Anna (Spellman) Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. On September 13, 1947, she married John M. Lomax, who predeceased her. Mrs. Lomax was a homemaker, avid gardener, golfer, bowler, had worked as a bookkeeper and also enjoyed traveling. She was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, New Jersey where she was past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She attended St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Staunton. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Sallie and Daniel Etzold of Easton, PA and Jeanne and Douglas Hawpe of Staunton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth and Doug Daub, David Etzold and Aislinn O'Callahan, Laura and Harry Hogan, Douglas and Ann Hawpe, Jr., and Diana and Dan Fletcher; six great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews. A Mass for the family will be celebrated in New Jersey at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 118 N. New Street, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
