Robert “Wythe” Alexander Hanger, 99, widower of Willie “Bill” Ovilla (Bowman) Hanger, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018.Wythe was born on February 2, 1919 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Alexander W. and Bertha B. (Euting) Hanger. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II, and was a contractor for Davisco Contracting. Wythe was a member of Augusta-Staunton VFW Post 2216, Staunton Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge. Mr. Hanger, alongside his wife, enjoyed dancing, making and selling crafts and they were the owners of the House of Gifts. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Linda Yeago. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is preceded in death by six siblings, Louise Bush, Thelma Ratcliff, Viola Booth, George Hanger, Arthur Hanger, and Frances Robertson; and his wife’s numerous siblings. A Memorial Service for Wythe and his late wife, Bill will be conducted at Calvary Baptist Church at 3 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018 by Rev. Harold “Pete” Campbell. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be at a later date. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
