Walter Woodrow Shiplett, 74, husband of Mary (Brooks) Shiplett, of 92 Siple Lane, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at King’s Daughters’ Community Health and Rehab Center. He was born August 26, 1941, in Augusta County, son of the late Russell and Grace Myrtle (Shiplett) Eckard. Mr. Shiplett was employed for 32 years by the City of Staunton with the Water Department.  After retirement, he worked for Walmart in Dayton and later Walmart in Staunton as a greeter. He was a member of Parkway Wesleyan Church.  He loved vegetable gardening, never met a stranger and loved talking with people. In addition to his wife of 54 years, family members include two sons, Nelson Ray Shiplett of Churchville and Thomas B. Shiplett of Rockingham County; seven grandchildren, Shawn Hemp, Elizabeth Shiplett, “T.J.”  Thomas Shiplett Jr., Adam Shiplett, “J.R.” Walter Shiplett Jr., Kimberly Shiplett, and Terry Ray Schell; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Joyce Eckard of Churchville; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nealie and Marvin Roberson of New Hope and Joan and Boyd Talley of Bridgewater. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Lee Shiplett. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Barry Lawson.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2016 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Parkway Wesleyan Church, 1987 Springhill Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
