Born in Fort Worth, TX on August 9, 1942 to Eloise (Vaughn Parnell) and Dee Arrowood.

Wayne grew up in Texas, attending Texas Christian University for an undergrad Ethics major. Between 1964 and 1966 he spent his summers working at national parks in Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and Smokey Mountains. Wayne attended Duke University for a Masters degree in Divinity in 1967. Wayne and his wife Alice Ann (Kimel) met at Duke University and were married in 1967. They moved to Greeley, CO where Wayne was Associate Minister at First Methodist Church. They then moved to Chicago, IL, where Wayne earned his Social Work Masters at the University of Chicago.

This was followed by a move to St. Paul, MN for a job with the United Way and later with the Minnesota Department of Health where he worked for 31 years. He completed his PhD in Social Work at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. It was in St. Paul where Wayne and Alice Ann spent most of their married life and raised their sons Steven and Bradley. In retirement, Wayne and Alice Ann moved to Hendersonville, NC, and later Staunton, VA.

Wayne was involved in many musical groups over the years, playing trumpet and singing tenor in groups including the Bach Society and the Minnesota State Band. After moving to Staunton. Virginia to be closer to family, he played trumpet with the Stonewall Brigade Band. He and Alice Ann shared a love of travel and visited many states and dozens of countries.

A wonderful father and husband, Wayne is survived by his wife Alice Ann, their two children Steven and Bradley, and four grandchildren. The family suggests sending memorial contributions to The Stonewall Brigade Band, a true community band that gave him joy in his final years. https://www.stonewallbrigadeband.com/contact/support-the-band/
