WILLIAM F. STANSBERRY STAUNTON, VA…             William Franklin “Bill” Stansberry, 93, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Monday, February 11, 2019.             He was born March 24, 1925, in Doddridge County, West Virginia, a son of the late Hunter and Faye (Smith) Stansberry.             He was an Army veteran and served in WWII, Bill earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Salem College, where he played football. He obtained a Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. Upon graduation he served 37 years in public education as a teacher and principal at New Hope, Fishersville, and Beverley Manor Elementary Schools.               While in the school system he coached football, track and little league at Wilson Memorial High School. Upon retirement from the public school system he loved hunting and gardening, but mostly helping people. He was known to have a great sense of humor and played pranks on friends and family. Bill spent many memorable hours entertaining friends and family, delivering meals on wheels, volunteering with the Food Bank, the Ruritans and on Election Day, and other church missions.             He was a seventy year member of First Baptist Church in Staunton, where he served as a Sunday school superintendent and was deacon emeritus.             Bill was very involved with his grandchildren and family, whom he loved dearly.             He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Lee (Collins) Stansberry and a sister, Jessie Stansberry Ash.             Family members include three children, Sheila Stansberry and wife, Hope, of New Bern, North Carolina, Dub Stansberry and wife, Judy, of Ft. Defiance, and Leslie Burdick of Staunton; a brother, Cline Stansberry; two sisters, Annabelle Childers and Reta Mae Broadwater; four grandchildren, Brittany Carper (Jeremy), Holly Burner (Jared), Dustin Burdick, and Trenton Burdick; and two great grandchildren, Dorothy Grace Carper and J. W. Carper, II. Bill leaves behind numerous cousins, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.             A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2019, in First Baptist Church. Burial will be private.             The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, in the Henry Funeral Home.             Memorial donations can be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Inc., P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482 or to an account at DuPont Community Credit Union which will be used to fund a scholarship for an Augusta County School student.
