Anne Katherine Reagan Haines, 94, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Anne was born December 10, 1929 in Asheville, NC to the late William Taylor and Mary Hazel Shelton Reagan.

Before moving permanently to Asheville, she lived in several communities in Western North Carolina, where her father worked as a civil engineer with the State Highway Department.

She was educated primarily in Asheville city schools and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. She was an honor graduate of Lee Edwards High School and Mars Hill College. She graduated "cum laude" from Meredith College and received her Master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary. She also received a certificate in library science in Virginia.

Anne had a vivid imagination and was a talented artist as a child and a creative writer as an adult. She was an avid reader, interested in many subjects, including genealogy. She was descended from some of the earliest settlers to the colonies, and several who served in the American Revolution.

She taught school in Asheville and in Staunton, where she met her late husband, William Atwell Haines, Jr., the son of the late William Atwell and Theodosia Hamilton Haines. They were married in June of 1957. Mr. Haines died in 1990.

She moved to Harrisonburg in 2005 and was a resident of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community for fifteen years.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton and formerly a member of First Baptist Church of Staunton.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Haines was preceded in death by her son, William Shelton Haines; her brother, William Shelton Reagan; and her nephew, James Daniel Klintworth.

She is survived by her two sons, James Atwell Haines and Joseph Hamilton Haines, both of Staunton, and her sister, Sarah R. "Sally" Klintworth and her husband, Edward D. "Dutch" and their sons, Michael Klintworth of Charlotte, NC and Steven (Colleen) Klintworth and his family of Canandaigua, NY. She is also survived by a number of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Henry Funeral Home chapel in Staunton with the Reverend William "A.J." Heine of Trinity Episcopal Church, Staunton, officiating.
