It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Annie Hampton Ramsey on Friday, July 11, 2025, age 101, formerly of Staunton.
Her journey through this world was marked by moments of beautifully crocheted and knit crafts, great southern cooking, and a steadfast devotion to family and friends. Born into a family that valued togetherness, she carried this lesson throughout her long and satisfying life.
Annie was born on December 29, 1923, to Maggie Fay (Johnson) and Walter Dixie Hampton in Independence, Virginia.
Her early years taught her the value of family, education, and the love of nature. She attended James Madison College to earn a secretarial certificate which led her to employment at a Staunton car dealership where she met her future husband of 70 years, Coy J. Ramsey. She then moved on to becoming a secretary with the Staunton public school system where she spent 30 happy years in a job that she truly loved. During her retirement years she enjoyed running an antique business with her husband, Coy.
After Coy’s death, she relocated to Dayton, Ohio to be close to her family. She has resided at Bethany Village, a retirement facility, since May 2016.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, C.J. and Kay Ramsey; her granddaughters, Lisa Whitesell (David), Katrina Arnold (Matt), Robin Ramsey (Erick Dahlstrom); and her great-granddaughters, Fauna and Araina Whitesell and Cora Dahlstrom, who will forever remember her warmth and wisdom. Her legacy endures in the stories retold, the lessons imparted, and the love that continues to grow among those who knew her best.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy James Ramsey Sr.; her brothers, Ralph, Edward, and Walter Hampton; and her sisters, Wanda Graves and Sara Fox.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
