Anthony E. Hamilton

FLORISSANT, MO - On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, Anthony “Tony” Hamilton passed away from this world to his heavenly home with his loving wife Cassandra and daughter Hope by his side. He was one of three children born to the late Elder Alphonso and Catherine “Kitty” Hamilton.

Tony was raised in Staunton as the youngest of three boys. Through his formative years he developed a love and propensity for sports, music education and The Lord. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School where he excelled in many sports including baseball, basketball, football, and track. He held records in track, one of which stood for over 35 years. Tony also participated in the high school band.
He along with his parents and brothers traveled the east coast singing the gospel as the Hamilton Family singers. Tony also shared his talents as the drummer/percussionist for the Al Hamilton Community Choir (formerly known as The Staunton Community Choir) and the Garrison Family choir.

Tony received a Full Scholarship for track and football from VMI (Virginia Military Institute) Lexington, VA. He became the 1st black Student Body President in the VMI history. Tony graduated from VMI in 1979, with a B.A. degree in Economics.

He then moved to Richmond, Virginia to pursue his career with the former C&P Telephone Company (now Verizon). It was there that he met the love of his life Cassandra Brown. Ten months later the two were united in Holy Matrimony on July 21, 1984. From this union they raised five amazing children.

Tony continued to demonstrate his leadership abilities not only as a family man and professional, but by serving 10 years in the Army Reserves as a Company Commander.

He served devotedly as a deacon at Cross Keys Baptist Church and a faithful man of God.

His name will be remembered. In 2014, Tony was inducted into the Robert E. Lee High School Hall of Fame in Staunton, VA. A plaque is on display in the Staunton High School hallways (formerly Robert E. Lee HS) bearing both his name Anthony Hamilton and his father’s Alphonso Hamilton.

Anthony Hamilton is preceded in death by his father, Pastor Alphonso Hamilton.
