Barbara Jean Goins McClanahan, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at her residence in Staunton.
She was born on February 5, 1942, in Mullins, West Virginia, to the late Merit Anderson and Elaine Rain Sisk Goins. She lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and an unwavering moral compass.
Barbara was a true lady of high esteem, known for her God-fearing nature and adherence to the highest moral standards. Throughout her life, she exemplified grace and compassion, touching the hearts of many with her warmth and generous spirit. She loved cooking and had a natural calling for taking care of people, always welcoming others with open arms and a kind word. She was a loyal and loving friend to all she met and always put others before herself.
Her family was central to her life and she is survived by her daughter, Dana Leigh McClanahan and her husband, John Rusmisel. John was the son she never had. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kaleigh "Special" Joy McClanahan-Rusmisel; her sister, Ramona A Goins Wingate. She is also loving remembered by her guardian angel, Carolyn Steele; her beloved niece, Myra Vogel; a beloved great-niece, Ashlee Vogel; a niece, Keri Goins; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her special friends, Cheryl Stephens, Amber Orme, Lisa Wells, and Stefanie Jones, and her grandpets, Annie, Ace, and Atlas.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce McClanahan; her brother, John Knick Goins; and her sister-in-law, Betty Mullins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Stephen Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (Attn: Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 909, Fishersville, VA 22939).
