Betty P. Wheeler

Betty Jane Phillips Campbell Wheeler, 83, of Greenville, passed away at her residence on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

She was born in Goochland, a daughter of the late Mahaley “Ginny” Virginia Phillips Painter. She was raised by her foster parents, the late Buford Rucker and Corine Ramsey Campbell, and was raised in Greenville.

She attended Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville and retired from Hollister after twenty years of dedicated service as an assembly line worker.

While her courtship with her husband, Leo Alvin Wheeler, was a short six weeks before they were married on New Year’s Eve of 1955, their marriage spanned nearly an impressive fifty-nine years.

She was kind to all and always tried to see the good in everyone - no matter who they were or their mistakes. She had a loving affinity for animals and especially loved her dog, Snitch.

Though she couldn't physically attend church anymore, she loved the Lord and read her Bible daily.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacklyn Marie Wheeler Higgs, and her husband, James of Stuarts Draft; her granddaughters, Leslie Wheeler and her boyfriend, Clarence Burkett, and Ashley Austin and her husband, Nathan; her great-grandchildren, Cody Wheeler, Christian Maybush, Jesse Cason, Joel Maybush, Ava Austin, Tyler Austin, and Maddie Austin; her sister, Shirley Painter Moore and her husband David of Louisville, KY; her brother, Marvin Campbell; her sisters-in-law, Lorretta Falls, Lucille Gilbert, Laura Jean Mohler, Jenny Wilmore and her husband, Lewis, and Shirley Wheeler; her brothers-in-law, Lester Wheeler and his wife, Jane, and LeRoy Wheeler and his wife, Sherri; her nieces and nephews, Lisa Curly, Rhonda Lawson, Tamara Berry, Beth Stinnett, Cheryl Musto, Susan Gilbert, Roy Mohler, Samantha Slater, John Wheeler, J.D. Wheeler, Ruthie Lawhorn, Joy Loudermilk, Ellen Wheeler, Kim Fitzgerald, Maggie Wheeler, Dee Wheeler, Chris Campbell and his wife, Judy, Sterling Campbell, Linda Campbell, Rudy Campbell, Brandy Thompson, and Shannon and Ashley Moore; and many great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother and foster parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband who passed away on July 1, 2014, her son, Timothy Lee Wheeler, who passed away on January 7, 1999; her great-nephew, James Banks Marcum, who passed away on December 5, 2022.
