Boyd Cleveland Helmick, Sr., 84, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
He was born on May 4, 1941, in Staunton to the late Albert Cleveland and Eveline Burton Redifer Helmick.
Boyd dedicated thirty-eight and a half years of his professional life working in the maintenance department at DuPont in Waynesboro.
Beyond his professional life, his pride and joy were found in coaching youth sports, including Kiwanis baseball and basketball with the Staunton Quarterback Club. His dedication to youth sports showcased the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
In addition to his coaching, Boyd served on the Building and Grounds committee at the Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Fort Defiance.
A true sports enthusiast, Boyd was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. His enthusiasm for baseball created lasting memories among family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Botkin Helmick; his son, Boyd “Cleve” Cleveland Helmick, Jr. and his wife, Tina; his daughter, Sharon Helmick; his granddaughter, Madeleine “Maddie” Grace Helmick; his sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Lee Helmick Jackson and Carolyn Ann Helmick Gilmer; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Botkin
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, George “Tom” Thomas Helmick; and his sisters, Patricia “Pat” De-Ann Helmick Shepard and Nancy Jean Redifer Huffer.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church in Fort Defiance with Reverend Stan Farthing officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 9:00 AM.
Interment will immediately follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lloyd Botkin, Sawyer Thurston, Tommy Newman, JC Shepard, Brad Davis, and Eric Cobb.
As we remember Boyd, we express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Campbell, Dr. Kumar, Dr. Goff, and the UVA Augusta Dialysis team for their exceptional care.
