Davis Stewart Cangalosi, 85, a distinguished captain in the United States Navy, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at River Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro. 

Born in bustling New York City to the late Joseph Anthony and Mary Elizabeth White Davis Cangalosi, he lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to duty and community.

Captain Cangalosi led a career that was nothing short of illustrious, commanding respect and admiration from all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His time as a captain in the United States Navy saw him navigate through the challenging jungles of Vietnam, sail across vast oceans, and serve honorably on three different ships. After nearly twenty-five years of dedicated service, he retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy that will be forever etched in history. His final chapter in service was marked aboard the USS Cape Cod.

Aside from his distinguished military career, he was an alum of the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, reflecting his commitment to excellence in both education and duty.

Beyond his professional life, Captain Cangalosi's passions illuminated the depths of his character. Model trains were not just a hobby for him but a profound passion that brought joy and creativity into his life. An avid player of bridge and a skilled gardener, he spent countless hours perfecting his home's landscape with utmost care and attention to detail. His dedication extended beyond personal interests as he actively and devotedly attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton for over thirty years and was a member of the Staunton Kiwanis Club for an equally impressive duration.

In the hearts of those who knew him best, he will forever be remembered as the life of the party - a beacon of warmth and kindness who never shied away from making others feel welcomed and cherished. His ability to connect with people on a deeper level, coupled with his humble nature and keen perception, made him an irreplaceable presence in the lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, he is precede in death by his beloved wife, Jane Harriette Dickinson Cangalosi.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan William Cangalosi and his wife, Aimee; his daughter, Caroline Anne Cangalosi George; his granddaughters, Emma Babin, Ellinor Cangalosi, and Lily Grace Cangalosi; his grandson, Alex George; and his sister, Linda Canagalosi Fleet.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton with the Reverend William "A.J." Heine officiating.

Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
