Carrie “Jackie” Elizabeth (Ham) Tarkington, 93, widow of Frank C. Tarkington, passed away on October 13, 2021 at RoseWood Village in Charlottesville.
She was born on October 3, 1928 in Staunton to the late Harry and Gertrude (Fitzgerald) Ham.
Carrie was a teacher for Staunton City Schools for 18 years. She and her loving husband were founding members of Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Captain Andrew M. Biehn, USN, and Barbara Wisniewski Biehn of Alexandria; a granddaughter, Lt Col Carrie A. Cox, USAF; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law Claire and Matt Hudson; her great grandchildren, Lee Victor Cox, Ana Susan Cox, Michael Hans Biehn, Lucie Elisabeth Biehn, and Charlotte Marie Biehn; and special friends, Martha Wilkerson, Mary Ellen Earhart, Elvira Simmons, and her Sunday school class.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughters, Diane Tarkington Biehn and Susan Tarkington Thomas; and a special friend, Carl S. Argenbright.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Henry Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Jones. Burial will follow at Thornrose Cemetery.
