Listen to Obituary

Cecelia Louise Shott, 95 years old, of Staunton, Virginia entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 07, 2025. She and her husband, Bill, who passed away in 2015, relocated to Fishersville, VA from their home in Fords, NJ thirty-five years ago, and later to Staunton at The Legacy of North Augusta.

Mrs. Shott was born in Staten Island, NY in 1930 and married Bill there in 1951. They bought their first home in Fords, NJ and lived there until retiring to Virginia in 1990.

She had excellent penmanship and loved writing beautiful notes and letters to her friends and family. She was an outstanding cook, made beautiful, handcrafted items, and joyfully decorated her home for all seasons and holidays. She loved her gardens and gardening, and adored her grandsons, their spouses, and her four great-granddaughters.

While in New Jersey, Cele was deeply involved with Grace Lutheran Evangelical Church, the founder of a library at the elementary school her sons attended, and in the Fords Women’s Club. She was equally involved at St. James Lutheran Church in Fishersville, VA, in whose cemetery she will be laid to rest, alongside Bill and their youngest son Bruce.

She made many friends in and around Fishersville and Staunton and at St. James Lutheran Church in Fishersville. She simply loved living in the area. She was especially grateful for the wonderful and loving care she received over the last eleven years at The Legacy. She rejected our attempts to get her to move back north to be closer to us, and thus we are equally as grateful for The Legacy and their supportive staff, and Legacy Hospice.

Cecelia is survived by her two sons, two grandsons, and four great-granddaughters, and a small number of nieces and nephews: her sons, Randy William of Philadelphia, Barry Brian and his wife, Elizabeth; her grandsons, Christopher, his wife Michelle, and their daughters, Annabel and Liesl and Brian, his wife, Meghan and their daughters, Lyla and Darcy.

She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, George (Bill) William; and her son, Bruce Walter Shott.

The passing of Cecelia has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered fondly especially by her grandsons who spent parts of the summer with her and Bill, admiring the farm adjacent to their home, the local markets, and her cooking.

A graveside service will be held at Saint James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fishersville on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM with Reverend Gordon Putnam officiating.
