Cecil Kenneth Landes passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2022. Kenneth would have been 95 years old on Saturday, October 29th.
“Kenney” as he was affectionately known by the Bridgewater Nursing Care staff, is survived by his loving wife, Alma Wine Landes. Kenneth and Alma were happily married for 69 years. Kenneth is also survived by three children, Larry and his wife Joy; Tim and his wife Patti, and Emily and her husband Mike. Surviving grandchildren are Chris, Kristin and husband Colton, Elizabeth and husband Wes, and Patrick. Teagan is a surviving great grandchild. Surviving step-grandchildren are Ben and Jessica, Max and Megan; and step-great-grandchildren, Noah, Zaden, Quinn, and Knox.
Kenneth grew up in Staunton, VA with nine siblings. Kenneth attended Beverley Manor High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, Kenneth attended Bridgewater College. He taught at Bridgewater and Wilson Memorial High Schools. Kenneth received a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Virginia. He was the principal at Middle River and Fort Defiance High Schools. He taught at Madison College for 11 years before returning as principal at Ladd Elementary School. He retired from Verona Elementary School in 1991.
Kenneth was a lifelong member of Pleasant View Lutheran Church. He sang in the church choir for over 60 years. He served on the Augusta County Board of Supervisors and was active in the local Republican party. Kenneth served as a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 52 in Mt. Sidney. He loved gardening, flower arranging, volunteering in his church, and making a difference in the lives of students and staff in six schools as a principal and a teacher.
Cecil Kenneth Landes loved his wife, his family, his church, and was passionate about everyone and everything. Kenneth was a toucher of so many lives and led his Godly life by way of kind words and kinder deeds.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church social hall immediately following the burial service.
