Charles "Pete" Bennett Martin, 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at his residence in Staunton.

He was born in Augusta Springs, on July 29, 1938, to the late Vivian Irene Martin Cole.

Pete served his country honorably as a paratrooper in the 325th PIR 82nd Airborne Division United States Army. He retired from Western State Hospital in Staunton as a supervisor of food service.

In addition to his military service, Pete was deeply involved in his community and various pursuits. His love for music led him to be the lead singer and guitarist for the band Pete Martin and the Versatile Keys. He was also a dedicated member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Staunton Lodge #1635, where he served as a Legionnaire. An ardent fan of the New York Yankees, Pete had a passion for baseball that he cherished throughout his life.

Pete will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Charles "Tony" Anthony and wife Sherry; his daughter, Cheryl L. Hagwood, and husband Troy; his sisters, Joyce Bragg and Carol Dixon; his grandchildren, Brandon, Haleigh, and Joseph Martin; a special niece, Wanda Cope; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caretaker, Alice Harris.

In addition to his loving wife, Patricia "Pat" Ann Vette Martin, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Deputy Marshall Wood, Franklin Eugene Martin Sr., Ann Mae Phoebus Martin, and a very special friend, Ginger Leitch.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, with the Reverend Jim Lundy officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Hagwood, Joseph Martin, Ed Newcomb, Kenny Amick, Danny Groah, and Reid Stonesifer.
