Charles Hunter Shomo, 93, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

He was born on November 6, 1931, in Augusta County, to the late Joseph Hunter and Jessie Agnes Rosen Shomo.

Charles dedicated his life to agriculture and service, embodying the spirit of hard work and commitment on his beloved ‘Rollinghills Farm’.

Throughout his life, Charles was involved with the Hebron Presbyterian Church, where he served on various committees and boards. He also sang in the church choir and was part of the ‘4 His Grace’ quartet.

In addition to his commitment to the church, Charles was also active in the agricultural community, playing key roles on various boards that supported and advocated for Virginia farmers.

He is survived by his son, Scott Hunter Shomo and his wife, Sally; his daughter, Tamera Lee Shomo Mason and her husband, John; his grandchildren, Justin Shomo (Cynthia), Bryan Shomo (Kelly), Elizabeth Harding, Wray Sherman (Ashley) and Hunter Shomo (Dana); and his great-grandchildren, Margaret, Wyatt, Joseph, Weston, MacKenzie, and Nola Shomo, Madison and Jase Harding, Kellen and Bryce Sherman and Ridge and Leddy Shomo; as well as a niece and three nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Shirley Jane Supple Shomo; his brother, Joseph Shomo; and his sister, Peggy Jean Shomo Joyner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Hebron Presbyterian Church in Staunton with Pastor Scott Duffey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Rob Marsh, Dr. Janelle Weaver, and the Middlebrook Family Practice for their outstanding care. The family also extends their appreciation to Carmen Brown, Shelly Truxell, Pat and Chuck Trippel, and to each person who made a positive difference in his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482), the Central and West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (1010 Ednam Center, Suite 203, Charlottesville, VA 22903), Hebron Presbyterian Church (423 Hebron Road, Staunton, VA 24401), or Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Henry Funeral Home.
